our Motorhome’s onan generators preheat switch comes on and clicks continually?

Most likely this is simply a bad switch. You can disconnect the remote switch connector at the genset and make sure everything is running OK manually. Then you can either diagnose the connections at the switch or just buy a replacement switch.
