Does anyone have any experience with renting an RV?

My husband and I want to take our four sons ages 6, 5, 2, and 8 mos. on a camping vacation and we figure the best way to do it would be to rent an RV. ANybody out there ever do this and can you relate your experience.? Thanks!

    I was going to do it one year when we had some friends from Europe visiting us. Then I added up up all the numbers ,factored in the combination of abysmal gas mileage , bad acceleration and bad handling and wound up renting a 12 passenger Dodge van .We tossed all our camping gear in it , spent two weeks on the road with the occasional night in a motel and still wound up saving a couple of hundred bucks over renting an RV.
