Can I buy an old motorhome that doesn’t run, tow it behind a truck, and use it as a travel trailer?

Any reason why this would not work?

to many axles so you would need a class A license, and being a 4 wheel vehicle it has lots more safety concerns, plus the extra weight of the engine and transmission would really cut into the gas mileage..

Depending on what state you live in the DOT has regulations on Gross Vehicle Weight. A combination of truck and trailer. That is your main concern. I would not recomend it in any case.
